Variable intake manifold 

The air required for engine combustion flows through the intake manifold to the inlet valve. Different, sometimes contradictory demands are made of the length of the intake manifold in different engine performance conditions. This is the only way to ensure the highest possible incoming air flow velocity and that the cylinder is filled properly at all engine speeds. While torque should be available at low engine speeds as quickly as possible, which is achieved most readily with a long intake manifold, maximum performance output at high engine speeds requires short intake manifold designs. An electronically controlled valve system helps the intake manifold meet both requirements, as the air is carried along the long length of the intake manifold at low engine speeds, while the short route is available at high engine speeds.

Variable turbine geometry 

Turbocharger control is required to ensure almost constant charge pressure for as wide an engine speed range as possible. The variable turbine geometry constantly alters the efficiency of the turbines. Adjustable guide vanes ensure this in a wide control range with good efficiency. If the gas pressure is low with a low engine speed, adjusting the guide vanes narrows the transverse section in the charger and increases gas pressure. If the exhaust gas pressure increases with the rising speed, adjusting the guide vanes will widen the transverse section of the supply again.
Chargers with variable turbine geometry work particularly effectively with part load - ‘turbo lag’ is avoided. They give the engine more performance, make it much more responsive and can have a positive impact on its emissions.

Voice control 

Voice control allows users to operate many functions such as the telephone, radio or navigation system with ease using voice commands. For instance, in navigation mode: simply activate voice control at the touch of a button on the steering wheel, say the address, and the route will be automatically calculated.
